This gel is made with Chondrus Crispus also known as Irish Moss. which is a species of Genus Gracilaria. It's been used medicinally and commercially used for ages and could vary in colors, ranging from red to dark purple, to green to yellow, yellow to brown, and purple to brown.
 
Many people often confuse Chondrus Crispus or Irish Moss with Genus Gracilaria and have used the terms interchangeably. Chondrus Crispus is the true Irish moss which technically isn't even a moss nor is seamoss. It's a "seaweed" or "sea algae" with many species found in the cold, clean waters off the coasts of the Atlantic Ocean, and also found off the coasts of Europe and North America. The term Irish Moss came when the Irish used it to survive the Irish Potato Famine. It is also known as Carrageenan Moss due to its high content of Carageen, which has been commercially and chemically extracted and used as a thickening agent. Used in products like shampoos, soaps, Ice cream, milk, lotions, medicinal creams, and more.
